Sheriff’s deputy Cody Hoyt returned to his hometown in Montana but problems seem to follow him wherever he goes. Two months into sobriety, his world is shaken when his AA mentor, Hank Winters, is found dead in his burned out cabin. Initially Winters’ death is ruled accidental; however, Hoyt cannot accept this outcome and finds indications of a homicide in the charred cabin.
Hoyt has other problems as well. His son is on a pack trip in Yellowstone National Park with his ex-wife’s new husband and there are indications that Hank Winters’ killer may be on the same trip. When Hoyt’s hotel room is set on fire, he begins to question the people he trusts and the information he has been given. Hoyt’s desperation to protect his son and avenge the death of his mentor take him into the heart of Yellowstone National Park where he faces unknown dangers and adventure.
I listened to this book and Holter Graham’s narration is excellent. I thoroughly enjoy C.J. Box books and the strong characters and settings he creates. His books are fast-paced and keep the reader guessing. I especially enjoyed that the book was set in Yellowstone National Park and how the story is developed within the beauty and wonder of our Nation’s first national park. ~~Enjoy~~
