SOON!! Recently our eBook provider, OverDrive, created a YouTube preview of the new OverDrive iPhone eBook App that will be released in December. This enables patrons to directly download eBooks to an iPhone or an iTouch. A separate app will be released for the iPad. Android users will also have an OverDrive eBook app available in the Andriod Market. Keep an eye out – we’ll announce the release of these apps at the Library’s homepage.
Currently the Library offers over 1,000 eBook titles to residents of Iowa City, rural Johnson County, Hills, University Heights and Coralville. An additional 15,000 public domain titles are available free to anyone, regardless of where you live. These include classics such as Wuthering Heights and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; poems by Robert Frost; and practical books such as A Course in Wood Turning.
Are you thinking about an eReader purchase this holiday season? If so, please review the information about devices that are compatible with the Library’s eBook service or call the Library for more information. Currently the list includes the Sony eReader, Barnes and Noble nook, Kobo eReader, and Pandigital Novel. We anticipate the iPhone/iTouch/iPad and Android apps will be released in December, making these devices compatible as well. The Library will host a Tech Petting Zoo on Wednesday December 8 at 11:00 AM that will feature some of these devices.
It’s a new eFrontier … please call and our staff would be happy to answer your questions.

In the meantime, try out the free Bluefire Reader for the Apple iPhone/iPad/iTouch. It reads ICPL Overdrive ebooks and is pretty slick.
