Jascha Heifetz was one of the great violinists of the 20th century and probably my favorite because of his beautiful tone and technical brilliance. Heifetz: It Ain’t Necessarily So is a 2-disc collection that’s chock full of encore pieces recorded by Heifetz in the Decca Records studio from 1944-1946. These miniature gems, most from 2-4 minutes long, range from popular classics like The Swan by Saint-SaĆ«ns and Clair de Lune by Debussy, to White Christmas by Irving Berlin and Summertime from Porgy and Bess. There are even some jazz numbers thrown in. The pieces are light as a feather, beautifully arranged, and played with the Heifetz touch. The recorded sound is intimate and vibrant.
