You certainly don’t have to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona to enjoy the soundtrack. Since the setting calls for Spanish music, the soundtrack is a major departure from Woody Allen’s favorite classic jazz. He does a great job of selecting evocative, sensual music, mostly nuevo flamenco guitar. There are also two vocal selections from the Barcelona-based group Giulia y los Tellarini (Barcelona and La Ley del Retiro), some traditional flamenco by Juan Serrano, and a couple of jazzier numbers (When I Was a Boy and Your Shining Eyes) by the Biel Ballester Trio. This is an effortless listen. Just sit back, relax and enjoy.
